The industrial building at Molukkenstraat 308 situated in Amsterdam East is an old first-aid factory. At the time of the beginning of the renovation, there was already a hardware store plus a number of shops in the building.
The purpose of the renovation was to house a supermarket in the basement of the 2-storey building. In addition, the building was in poor condition, with rusting sheet pile profiles such as facade cladding, and lots of graffiti.
However, there was not enough parking space for the supermarket’s destination. The parking issue has been solved by Heyligers by means of designing a parking roof which is accessible via a ramp.
The facades are covered with a combination of anthracite typesetting and vertical gold-colored aluminum slats. To prevent noise nuisance, acoustic panels were installed along all roof edges near the parking roof, which will also act as a parapet and drive-through protection.
